Frequently Asked Questions

  • No matter if you are on strong pain medicine or have had surgery or are on disability for your symptoms, this mind-body approach is shown to be beneficial. Patients more likely to improve are open to the mind-body approach, motivated in their own self-healing, and are willing to use the free or inexpensive learning resources recommended in between appointments.

  • Dr. Hollander may suggest visits on a 2-4 week schedule at first. Some patients may only need a couple of appointments to feel equipped to continue the self-healing work on their own with a workbook or app. Others may need more visits to process emotions that became linked with the symptoms early on and / or to work on guided trigger-exposure for healing.

Your recovery time will depend on a variety of factors. If you’ve had symptoms for years to decades, it may take weeks to months to see improvement. But have faith, and you can get better! You will be more likely to heal sooner if you can give up emotional attachment to your symptoms and life circumstances / stressors. You’ve likely been a patient for a long time and beginning to see yourself as your own self-healer goes a long way toward healing. Your healing time will also depend on your motivation to read the resources and do the meditations or other interventions Dr. Hollander recommends.

  • After you book an appointment, Dr. Hollander’s electronic medical record software, Practice Better, will send you an invitation to join the patient portal. There you will have access to the video visit software at the time of your appointment. All you need is a smart phone, tablet, lap top, or desktop computer with microphone & camera. Through the patient portal in advance of the appointment, you will receive a brief new patient intake form to complete. The portal also allows secure communication for instant messaging Dr. Hollander.

  • Set up a free “Discovery Call” from the booking / appointments page to have a 15-minute phone call from Dr. Hollander.

  • Dr. Hollander is licensed to provide medical care for patients who are currently present & reside in: Arkansas, California, or Missouri. Traditional credit / debit cards and FSA & HSA debit cards are accepted. However, in an effort to strengthen patient autonomy in their own healing and maintain scheduling availability, Dr. Hollander does not file insurance claims. If requested, she will provide you a superbill (a receipt of the medical visit with billing codes) that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Unfortunately, Dr. Hollander is not set up to see patients who have Medicaid or Medicare at this time either via insurance or direct billing. If you have Medicare or Medicaid, reside outside AR, CA, or MO, or have financial constraints, feel free to use the Learning page, Resources page, and contact Dr. Hollander to learn how you can get personalized professional guidance.

  • Yes! Minors should have a parent / guardian present at the initial consultation and follow up appointments. I may request the latter part of follow-up appointments be in private with your child depending on age and situation.

  • Ideally, your symptoms will improve with Dr. Hollander’s approach and you will not need as many (or any!) primary care or specialty visits for your neuroplastic symptoms. However, Dr. Hollander does not take the place of your primary care physician for wellness screening, diagnostic testing, and any ongoing prescriptions. Please also see an appropriate physician for anything urgent.

  • At this time, Dr. Hollander offers virtual appointments only. They offer you the benefits of privacy and ease from your own home and lower the cost of your appointment. They allow Dr. Hollander to practice in multiple states.

  • Dr. Hollander has only a basic speaking level of Spanish, so you will still need to have a support person interpret into English at your appointment. I can guide you toward reading materials in Spanish to work on in between appointments.

  • It is not necessary, but consider having a support person present at your first appointment. That may be your spouse, adult child, close friend, or other person who can be an additional contributor on the history of your illness and a listening ear to the information I provide. Minors should have a parent / guardian present and non-fluent English speakers should have a translator who may be their support person.

During the first half of the visit or so, Dr. Hollander will ask you to share your pain / symptom story and she will review with you the medical testing you have done. She may ask questions about stressful or traumatic experiences you had around the time you initially developed symptoms and other life experiences. During the latter half of the visit, she will explain the neuroscience behind chronic pain & stress-related symptoms and offer resources to read, watch, or listen to before your next appointment.

  • Luckily, addressing the mind-body connection does not require additional lab work or imaging tests! Dr. Hollander requests that you’ve had all the appropriate traditional medical workup already with your primary care provider and / or other specialists to rule out a structural or biomedical condition. You will need to use free or inexpensive (~$30) learning resources in between appointments.
